Lets see. Tax free day is April 13th which is about 103 days you spend working just to pay taxes. Then you have to add another 75 days just to pay your transportation costs and the total of both is nearly 180 days to pay your taxes and wheels! Incredible.
That means the average motorist lives on money earned on 187 days. No wonder we're a broke nation!
To point out the obvious that means to have an average quality of life you only need to work 2.5 days per week if you're completely self sufficient (because no trade means no income means no taxes)...and if you're born into the middle class and opt out of the car culture you probably don't need* to work at all.
*key word is "need". Just think of all the time you'd have to work on what you feel is worthwhile. Curing cancer, fostering relationships, etc. It's like winning the lotto.
