Yeah I realize that, sorry I didn't clarify why I felt better on traditional. it's the visual aspect for me. I like to look down and see a level tube. Downward sloping just doesn't look right to me and that gives me an less natural feeling on the bike.
I agree with you on the looks. But one quick thing to note is that "compact" geometries (ie. sloping top tubes) actually lower the center of gravity of the frame, so it does affect the handling of the bike (beyond the usual things like being stiffer and slightly lighter)...
