It costs me about $7000 a year to ride a bike. Yes, that's deducting gas and maintenance on my car, and I'm not even counting maintenance on the bike, which amounts to about $50/year.
Is that a surprise? If you have two alternatives, you're never going to save any money buying both, but only using one. The fact that you even have to think about it when it comes to cycling is a testament to just how much can be saved by choosing a bike instead of a car.
