Make sure that you aren't dehydrated, because it is hard to rehydrate yourself the day of the event. Before a race or long event I eat 60-70 % complex carbohydrates, 20-30 % protein, and around 10-20 % fat. The main focus though is eating complex carbs to store the necessary glycogen in your muscles and liver that you will need to complete the event.
