You're correct to stay away from Walmart road bikes. They are no good.

Personally I wouldn't buy the Mirage Sport. I draw the line at Sora/Tiagra components, and 2200 is at the bottom line of Shimano parts.

If it were me, I would look at Craigslist. You can find much better bikes for the same price. The only thing is that you will need to know what to look for, and possibly some bike maintenance.

My two best deals on Craigslist were these very nice late 80s Bianchi and Trek, both for about $100 each. After changing the cables, housing, and bar tape those bike ran very well. Cable housing and bar tape only cost me about $20, but it made a big difference.

If you're patient and know what to look for, Craigslist would be the best option for poor college student (like me).
