It could be worse...it could be Tampa (I learned that one the hard way). At least Miami has a distinct culture and things that make it Miami. Tampa has almost absolutely nothing to offer but depression and strip malls.
If you think it's bad in Tampa, try Jacksonville. That's where I'm from and where my parents live (just in Gainesville for school). Takes minimum of 15 minutes to get anywhere and it's 90% malls or strip malls.
