DaveSSS- thanks for the info. This thread attracted me because initially I thought it implied that Campy had decided they could essentially just sorta' glue/threadlock the cups in place-no torque needed. I thought maybe it was a novel way of avoiding having to do any machining-you know just all the cups to sort of find their own place in the threads-kinda self centering themselves without distorting the bearings.

It occurred to me that if bearing could be designed that would outlast the rest of the bike, you could literally glue/epoxy the bearings/cups in place in a crudely machined shell-save the cost of expensive machining and the expensive facing/ chasing. I doubt any epoxy/glue adhesive is up to that, but this thread had me wondering if that yellow goop was some sort of magic glue, and the no torque installation was something intentional-letting the cups sort of self align after the entire crankset had been installed-like a very slow setting adhesive-might allow you to not face or even machine the shell as precisely as you should.
Thanks
Charlie
