That's pretty much what I thought. I think it comes down to using some common sense when using one in wet conditions. Has anyone used Mink Oil on their saddles? Its a water proofer that I put on my "combat" boots and leather motorcycle jacket.
Mink oil isn't recommended on a Brooks saddle. It softens them up too much. As far as riding them in the rain, I just carry a plastic grocery bag and tie it over the saddle. We have a fair amount of rain here and all 3 of my bikes have Brooks saddles on them. No problems even when they occasionally get wet.
