Klein Performance. Probably 1984 or 1985.

I have a Klein Performance that I bought as a frame and fork in 1983. That's how I knew where the serial number was stamped.

It was the first production frame that Klein produced. Previous frames were all custom. The Performance frame was about $600 in 1983 and the custom frames were at least twice that much.

The frame came with a chromed steel fork with Shimano dropouts, a Shimano 600 EX headset, and Modolo carbon shift levers mounted on the aero boss (top of the downtube). My frame came with a Suntour Superbe front derailleur attached through an oval shaped hole in the seat tube to a small fixture using the endless band type front derailleur. The bike pictured seems to have a Cyclone front derailleur.

The Performance has really long chainstays. They are 18 inches. The only other Klein frames with that geometry are the Custom Stage and Advantage. The other Klein chainstays are in the 16 inch range. There was a hybrid bike called the ADEPT that had fork rack mounts, but I think that was a 90's bike.

So it could be a Custom Stage or an Advantage, but my guess is that it's a repainted Performance,
