Well I am still a green bike tourer too, but what I learned from my first trip is that if it can go wrong it will. Its not always going to smoothly and your going to have to keep a level head about everything. Choose an easy trip close to home to start out on. Do some overnighters to start out with. And most importantly, If you need advice or motivation come to this forum. They have helped me out tremendously and I wouldnt have ever done what I have already done without them.
