Yes. I run a 10 speed triple on a 7 speed with a 7 speed chain. No problems. There is a little adjustment needed in the FD but no more than installing a new 7 speed triple. As Sheldon notes, the crankset is not "speed" specific. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/speeds.html
