I have a NOS steel shelled S5-2. What are you going to use for a shifter? I have the stem shifters, but from What Sheldon said about them, I'm afraid I'm not going to like them.
Thanks.
I set mine up with a SA 3 speed trigger shifter for the right side cable and a Sunrace friction thumb shifter for the left cable. My hub came with both the dual cable single lever plastic shifter and the cheap looking stem shifters with plastic levers. After reading Sheldon and from input from Geared Hub Bikes Yahoo Group members (linked to below) I decided that it was the most reliable way to go.
My question was based on the description of shifting the S5 on Sheldon's web site and it does not clearly differentiate between the S5 and the later S5-1 and S5-2 hubs. The SA tech manual I downloaded describes the S5-2 shifting by shift lever positions rather than cable position which would be clearer for those using non standard shifters as I am.
