Good advice so far. Only thing I'll add is I've used white lithium in hubs before but I think it's a little on the light side, IMO. Last thing I used was Park Polylube on my MTB which isn't terribly cheap but a tube goes a long way and works better than lithium. I use lithium on my cables still though.
