i don't really look for specific brands but i look for the mid range and then if they are reduced then so much better. for shorts i bought a £20 (paid full retail price) pair once and it lasted no time at all. i then got a £50 (mid range) and it has lasted me ages. ironically i paid £22 for the £50.
I thought there might be a specific brands that is more comfortable and that most people choose. Price is really not a big issue as I'm not paying.

Just ride and you'll be fine. BTW, a couple years ago I met a guy who decided to get in shape when he was over 400 lbs. I met him 2 years after he started losing weight on
this ride. At a tick over 200 lbs, he was still possibly the biggest guy out there, but he finished a course that is tough even for really hard core cyclists.
Yeah, I get that many cyclists are looked down on. My neighbor is always complaining about cyclists on the road.
