It was far more than a simple facelift I am sure, and it was an excellent improvement for their users.

The few things that don't work however, always tend to overshadow the many that do, so they really ought to hold the developer's feet to the fire to fix the search function.

But again, I do want to stress that their overall approach, and the look and feel, is far superior to that of other internet forums: I think it is reflective of the quality of its content, and of the many good people who play here. Kudos.
I have spent too much of my time raising one feature I liked that was broken by the upgrade. However, I'm convinced it will only get fixed by a total redesign. What else will that process break?

I respect Tom for putting up with what he has done, and for taking the responsibility to be the primary point of contact for us users, attempting to make us happy. But he was handed a bad set of goods. The look and feel refinements were implemented after the switch was thrown, so fine, that represents good work. But I feel it's better to give kudos for having used good judgement in deciding to make a change rather than in heroically fixing that which never needed to be changed.

In industry, one way to become a hero is to mess something up then show how good you are by making it good. Not to show a good decision process in prioritizing what is to be changed and what is not worth changing, or too risky to mess with.

Search, and my issue, will get fixed when the next Millenium comes.

I am sick of talking about it, but I will not agree even tacitly that it was a job well done.
