I'd have to disagree with that statement. A 10-speed FD would be too narrow for acceptable shifting performance. A derailleur designed for a 13 or 14 tooth drop from big ring to middle ring world not perform very well on a 52-42-30 triple. A double FD will not work as well as a triple FD on a triple crankset.
