Running new cables on an older bike
Hello all,
I am a total newby to mountain bikes and an older guy (late-40's is not cool) who is trying to fix up a GT XCR 4000 that I was given, that was missing shifter and rear brake cables. I have replacement cables for both brakes (front is done) and both deraillures on (I think) a 9 speed (?) ...according to descriptions of this bike I have seen online, if I remember correctlyoff the top of my head. The shifter is missing, but is in my house, misplaced by my 5 year old. I think I have a Shimano shifter, and know I have a shimano rear deraillure.
Two main questions:
1. How can I tell what year the bike is? (I can see the serial number on the underside, if this tells me anything.)
2. Where can I get a diagram to show me exactly where the cables are run on the frame, so I can do it right/ Obviously, the front brake is straight forward and already run.
I am desparate to get this done and done right, so if anyone can help me with these issues, I be very grateful.
Many thanks,
Richard
