I stripped the threads in my stem using a very small multitool (very short lever arm) without hardly trying last year. I was trying to eliminate a squeak during a ride. Although the bolt was fine, the threads are just cut into aluminum and that is a relatively soft metal, at least compared to the titanium bolt. Steel on steel is one thing, fasteners that are attaching to carbon fiber or aluminum are a whole 'nother ball game. You may not damage the bolt by cranking too tight, but you can damage the threaded hole or pull a rivnut through or damage the materials that you are trying to attach.
