I'm not sure I agree with that. For a lot of the mid-rangey parts, there used to be several guys obviously specializing in this and I think that their auctions did form a significant portion of the market. Again, there used to be more guys who would have hundreds of used parts up there, obviously from parting out garage sale bikes. Now, the guys remaining who have hundreds of parts/auctions tend to be slanted much more towards new/nos stuff.

I know this is all anecdotal, just asking to see if anyone else has been making observations similar to mine.
