The fixie kids have been doing stuff like this for ages. Converting their Adidas, Vans, Nikes, etc. into SPD-compatible, stiff-soled cycling shoes. They remove the sole from some old MTB shoes and glue them into whatever sneakers, then cut a box out of the bottom of the sneaker sole for the cleat. Kind of clever, kind of jackass at the same time.
As for this, I'm not sure if the OP threw a road sole in there or not. If not, epic fails. Young grasshopper has much to learn from the SSFG crowd.
