I'd give some weights a try, but start off doing things like bodyweight lunges for a bit and add dumbbells to that.

If it's not an issue of muscle mass, it's an issue of recruitment. Do it for a season or two, if it helps keep at it, if it doesn't help then stop. The mass will go away...

We're not all aiming to get a contract. Have some fun with it. Try something different to see if it works or not.

Maybe lifting and concentrating on your back, quads, glutes, hammies, and calves will help you a bit. It takes a TON of eating to pack on the muscle so if you're not eating a ton and adding mass, you're going to probably improve some neural systems.
