It's impossible not to. I don't know what Surly does with their lettering on the frame, but mine is wearing off in places without me doing anything odd to it. I just kind of accepted that the head badge will probably be the only identifier on the frame when it's old. That's okay by me, I'm not a real big fan of huge lettering indicating what model and brand your bike is.
