The problem with asking for a consensus on saddles is that our @$$es are are unique as our faces and a saddle that feels great to me might feel like sitting on the corner of a cinderblock wall to you.
The best approach is to find a bike shop that has a saddle exchange program, so that you can exchange seats until you find the least painful one, and keep your receipt.
So far, the best saddles for me have been Brooks B17 and the Specialized Avatar-Gel. I've tried nearly two-dozen saddles, but there is probably a Fizik or Selle Italia I haven't tried that would be perfecter.
Whatever you do, don't settle. Don't try to make do with a seat because you're too broke or lazy to try a different one. Also, check out the used seats on Ebay. I've got a few in my garage that I tried once or twice and decided weren't for me--lots of riders do this and there are always lightly-used saddles going up there.
Good luck and safe riding.
