You'd probably do just fine if you went for 40 miles right now so long as you took it slow, had plenty to drink, and brought a little to eat. Just keep doing what you're doing, and you'll soon think that 40 miles is nothing.
Don't be afraid to adjust your bike. Only adjust one thing at a time, take it out on a normal ride, and decide if your change made things better or worse. If it's an improvement, great. If not, just change it back and try something else.
