W.I. H3 Rear Tension Ratio
*edit* See Bold/Italics below.
I'm about to finish up the final tensioning on my new wheelset (pictures to follow as soon as my wife returns this weekend with the camera) and I have a question for you wheel men.
Parts are WI Hubs, 28h, DT Comp 2/1.8/2 spokes, and XR-300 rim, Laced 2x both sides.
I have everything set evenly and fairly true, but am getting readings around 120 kgf. on the DS and 40 Kgf on the NDS...and I still have about 1mm to redish the rim toward the DS. Uhg. Once I get it dished right, I'll mount the tire and recheck tension (since it'll come down a bit). Should I worry about such a HUGE rear wheel tension ratio? I know that the practice is to set the DS tension and simply adjust the NDS to whatever gives you the right dish...but should I nudge the DS tension up to try and milk a bit more tension out of the NDS, or just cross my fingers that I wont' be dealing with loosening spokes and breakages NDS from the low tension?
That awesome fairwheelbikes article about rear hubs mentions that the WI and a few others others have a wide NDS spacing number that leads to ratios around 41%...but I'm below even that right now, and still not dished right. Hmm. I know now that I could have used Revolution spokes for the NDS to help compensate for this, but I'd prefer to not spend any more money unless it's completely necessary, but I DO want to have a reliable wheel.
*edit*......Ok, I'm an idiot I guess. Sorry to waste your time. I just double checked my numbers and I think they are closer to 50 Kgf on the NDS, which is right near the 41% that the review stated for this hub. You can disregard this thread...or not if you have something to share anyway. =)
Thanks.
