I'm not sure what you mean by not caring for the appearance but you probably mean the comfort bike look. I prefer the look of the fitness models like the FX myself.
All of the Hybrids I have seen have a top tube that is angled. A mens bike is not as severe and some women prefer those but they are still not horizontal.

I'm a beginner, so I don't feel like I need the best of the best. Also, I looked at the 7100 and 7200 review and they sounded good, but I do not like the appearance, and I don't think those bikes would fit well on my trunk rack.
