I have been following the blog freepublictransit, and was wondering what you all thought of the idea of free public transit in your town. The system would have to be funded by a tax levy of course, but the payoff would be huge in getting people out of their automobiles and making our cities more bicycle/pedestrian friendly. Buses and trains would run faster because they wouldn't have to collect fares. More people on transit > less cars on the road > less highway building > less parking lots and more density.
