I hit 57mph on a not terribly long but very steep descent in Dutchess County, New York. That was more than 20 years ago. Recently I haven't done anything more than 42mph. My rides are too urban/suburban now and I don't get the chance to go on roads that allow for longer uninterrupted descents. If I get in better shape I might be able to ride farther out of the city and find some places where I can do some stupid speeds again. I am not sure I really want to however...
