I got this one second-hand in February. It wasn't intended as a commuter, but lately we've had gorgeous weather during the week and crap on the weekend. It's been spending all its time on its hook in the living room looking forlorn.
So this week on Monday I used the Portland to haul in a whole week's worth of food and clothes (and library books), commuted on this little beastie Tuesday and Wednesday, then hauled home all the laundry (and more library books) on Thursday with Yellow Bike.
It's a 1999 Schwinn Peloton, with a Reynolds 853 frame and a ton of component upgrades courtesy of its first owner. It's rapidly becoming my favorite bike, even if "practical" isn't in its vocabulary.
On Wednesday, it took over five minutes off my 16.5 mile long-loop commute home, while at the same time turning in my lowest average heart rate for that route. It makes going fast, easy.
