Back in '03 when Bill introduced the Beyond the original goal was to incorporate, "
carbon-composite tubes that are stronger, stiffer and lighter than the tubes found on previous bicycles." It was only during testing that the vibration dampening characteristics, i.e., added comfort factor was discovered.
