Bikes: 1962 Rudge Sports, 1971 Raleigh Super Course, 1971 Raleigh Pro Track, 1974 Raleigh International, 1975 Viscount Fixie, 1982 McLean, 1996 Lemond (Ti), 2002 Burley Zydeco tandem

In 1982, before the Cannondale came out, aluminum frames were exotic and expensive. A guy brought his brand new frame in and asked us to build it up into a bike. He was a high paying customer. He tipped me $10 in anticipation of my doing a good job.

I clamped the frame in the Park work stand.

After I was done, I noticed the top tube wasn't round. Uh oh. I showed my boss. He was pissed!

He worked for hours to get the shape back to round. And he ruined the frame.

Then we called the customer and learned that it wasn't round to begin with. I hadn't crimped it.

Oh man.
