I've never been to Colorado (except many times in the Denver airport), but I know people who have lived there. From everything I've read and heard, there is just a general culture of fitness there. I think to some degree it is a self-fulfilling prophecy, as the notion of the fitness culture attracts people who are interested in that. The high altitude, Air Force Academy, Olympic training center, etc. probably don't hurt either.
