The only thing that really sucks is if you cosign a lease with people and someone moves out or if one of the rooms isn't filled, you have to pay the remainder of the rent. That would suck!!!
I can't imagine having to pay rent for myself on my salary, let alone covering someone else's ass or covering for an empty room.
Ahhh...college rent issues. I miss those days. I would never advocate anything underhanded but use your head and let common sense be your guide if you run into that situation. There are a lot of laws to help protect people who fall on hard times from getting instantly thrown out. If you pay something....you are paying....that carries weight.
Another fun one.l...I was recently contacted by a collection agency. It was addressed in the name of a company I ran (LLC) in college. I stopped doing business under tha company in 1998. At that time I owed no one anything. This appears to be the State of Indiana claiming a debt that seems eerily like the amount that is charged to register the company. My thought is that they charged the company for registering the following year and I never found out about it.
Years later the state writes it off and a collection company buys it. The correspondance did not have my name attached to it in any way. I responded to the inquiry by disputing the debt. I did not list my name. I simply replied in the name of the business. Anyone with any specific knowledge or advice....feel free to contact me via pm or email.
