In addition to the "boutique" builders (Richard Sachs, Peter Jon White, Peter Weigle, Steelman, etc.), you can also get steel roadbike frames and/or complete bikes from Specialized, Bianchi, Lemond, Fuji, Rivendell, Torelli, Surly, Gunnar, Waterford, Soma, Kogswell, and others. Some use lugged construction, while others are TIG welded. Steel roadbike frames are not rare; nor are they going away. For serious (i.e., sponsored) racers who get their frames for free or at a significantly reduced cost and who are going to "use up" a frame in a season or two, aluminum and carbon fiber make sense on weight-weeny grounds. For the rest of us (and yes, I race a steel-frame Lemond from time to time), steel is an option worthy of strong consideration.
