I've been thinking the same thing, especially today. There's a kid at work who thinks he might want to buy my Langster, but I don't think he really knows what he's getting into with a singlespeed (although he's still got his youth). I checked CL this afternoon to see what's in his size and in his budget, and it's just like you say it is in LA. He can get a competent bike on BD for the same price, and if he really needs help wrenching, there's several of us that can help.
