what do you recommend to bring back shine to paint?

I have been working on my old mixte over the weekend, and I'd love to get it shining and pretty. it's in good condition (no chips or anything), just very dull and matte looking, (although, in spots it still has some gloss). I have tried a handful of polishes and such, but nothing seems to give it any luster. I am wondering if over time, the clear coat (if it had any?) has worn down.

anyway, what are your tips or tricks to get paint shining? or is it hopeless?

thanks guys.
