I have had this whinge before, and I have actively scoured the www for mountainbike handlebars that have an ergonomic hand position, but could not find any. So, either have some bent by an expert, or swap to North Roads.
So, there is something to be said for designers of old. They knew a thing or two, some of which is being 'reinvented' such as female-specific frame geometry on comfort bikes. Hey, Raleigh and others knew this generations ago

the cane creeks made flat bar ridable for me...but I still put a nitto north roads style on my utiliyt bike
