Oh, and for those of you who don't think that your actions reflect negatively on the cycling community as a whole, haven't you read any of the comments at the end of most of the articles dealing with cyclists who have been hit by motorists?

Where do you think those opinions come from? And why do you think it is that motorists want us off of "their" roads???

It's because of the minority of cyclists who routinely break the laws. That's where.
The opinions of people who post wacky comments on "articles" about cycling accidents are probably formulated by the same irrational process as your own, and the ranters do not need any justification or basis in fact for them.

Given that most cyclists (almost all in my Philadelphia experience) do not wait like statues at red lights, and that serious accidents caused by such behavior (especially for adults who have the wherewithal to look for traffic before entering an intersection) is quite rare, where does your wacky "opinon" about danger and negativity on the "cycling community" come from? Or your "opinion" about how the majority of cyclists behave, or the relative safety record of cyclists who rigidly comply with every traffic code?

BTW, which cyclists are included/excluded from this "cycling community" that you speak of? Is this "community" the one where the majority of cyclists wait out every traffic light and disparage all cyclists that do not fit your self assessed Competent Serious Cyclist profile? I suspect this "community" is an outlier and mostly found in the friendly confines of BF and other electronic locations where cycling nerds post their opinions and unique visions of reality.
