they work fine with clips and straps. for the record they aren't "shimano 600" pedals, they made those pedals in several grades... 105, 600/ultegra, dura ace... beware some of the dura ace though, they came with that crazy oversized pedal threading

you can find plastic straps for these new, but metal ones require some digging. ebay and swap meets are the best place. i probably saw 3-4 pair at the trexlertown bike swap this past weekend.
