I have used electric pumps (had one on loan from a friend) and a Joe Blow pump (forget model but it's a decent one). The electric pump was easy and convenient and worked better than the old POS pump I used for years (Schwinn model from the 70's). My old hand pump couldn't get past 80psi so I had to use the electric.
The electric pump was convenient but it had a couple weaknesses. The air gauge on the electric was not accurate, and the valve connector required the use of an adapter to work on my road tire valves. My Joe Blow pump is easy to fill the tires to 120psi, has an easy to read/accurate gauge and the valve connector works on presta and schrader valves without adjustment. I love it.
Until I got a quality air pump, I never realized how much better they operated, versus el cheapo models. An electric pump was convenient in many ways but not necessary.
