Rollers. The front most of the back pair is connected to the front one via a belt. So all 3 are spinning, and the front one is causing his front wheel to spin. If you look carefully at the bottom picture, you can see the belt on the far side. So he's staying upright by the gyroscopic effect of his spinning wheels. They're not so hard to ride on once you get acclimated.

Why ? Maybe rollers give a more realistic view of riding conditions. Have the camera operator take a picture while you coast for a second with your foot at 6 o'clock. How about on the drops too.
