how about V-brake cartridges?
the nut is on the outside and the threaded section is M5x1 so the OD of the bolt is about 5.88mm
hmm, well, okay, I tried this with a BR-6400 and some v-brake pads, but they sit in about 4mm further, so this would limit how far you can get the caliper open.
