I ride almost none at night, for one reason I don't have lights and even if I did I'm not sure how much I would trust myself to use them. In the big city you can do a little riding just relying on streetlights and so forth. BUT the problem is that there is always the chance that in that one little spot where the streetlight doesn't reach there will be the one little obstacle on your whole route.
Happened to me one day, long ago. I had gone a mile away to visit a friend. On the way back home I was rolling through his apartment complex and it was now dark. I was thinking how quiet and cool it was, no heat from the sun, the wind had died down, no traffic around. About that time I rolled into a dark spot, going downhill, and hit a speed bump. I went up in the air, the bike went up in the air, the bike came back down, I came back down, except now I wasn't perfectly centered over the bike and picked up a bit of road rash for my stupidity.
But yes, out on a quiet road in the dark with just one light, it would be a bit creepy.
