Knowing what I know after having installed that connector, I find it very hard to believe that actually happened. There are three direct mechanisms (a click detent, a tab-into-locking-slot, and a "door") and one indirect mechanism (hood pressure) that keep the connector very secure. I would find it much easier to believe that somebody couldn't get their shifter UNplugged after having plugged it in.
