Hello all,
It is with great sadness that I am posting the news of my stolen three-speed
commuter bike. It was stolen from our garage sometime between 9pm on Thursday May
13, and this morning, Friday May 14 at 8:45am, when I came out to found our
garage door wide open and the bike missing.
Please keep an eye out for my bike! It's pretty rare; I've only seen one other
like it in Chicago, so I'm hoping it'll turn up. Please feel free to re-post on
any other relevant sites:
STOLEN BIKE!
MAKE: Dunelt (British brand similar to Raleigh)
MODEL: Ladies' three-speed
COLOR: black
YEAR: 1963
DISTINCTIVE MARKS:
* My U-lock was secured to the frame when it was stolen, so even if the U-lock
has since been discarded, there will still be the clasp that holds the U-lock in
place, secured onto the frame under the seat.
* There is a decal on the back fender that is worn almost off and illegible, but
the traditional Dunelt motto, "Ride awheel on Sheffield Steel," is perfectly
legible, in golden/yellow painted font, along the frame.
MISSING: from garage behind 2212 N. Central Park, as of Friday morning 5/14/10.

If seen around, please please please call my cell phone at 773-398-0493. The bike
isn't worth all that much money, but has a ton of sentimental value.
I have filed both a police report and a missing bike report.
A note about storage in garages in West Logan Square: Ours has been on the fritz,
so this may very well be a case of the garage door malfunctioning electronically,
getting stuck open, and someone seizing the opportunity. The garage didn't look
to be pried open. However, I have heard of other folks having stuff stolen out of
otherwise secure garages, so just a thought: I've learned from this experience
that even if our garage is locked in the future, I will still make a point of
locking up my bike IN the garage, so that any potential thefts will be deterred
that much more.
