bobthib, if you had to change both the stem and seatpost I would not consider your original fit "close". But that does show how far off people are sometimes in that you were closer than most. The thing about bike fit is that it is dynamic. What works after a long layoff might not work after riding 10k miles in a year. I mostly took the winter off the bike this year and when I started again this Spring I couldn't handle my usual position. I had to raise and shorten the bars, adjust saddle height etc. After a couple months I'm back to my position of last year. So it is important to listen to your body.

I had a fit done at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine by Andy Pruitt, one of the most recognized bit fitters anywhere. I left feeling good on the bike but over time found the saddle to be too high. So even the best fitters with the best computers can only get you so close. The rest is time in the saddle and awareness of how you feel. Remember, it takes time for the body to adjust to changes so always take it easy for a few rides after an adjustment to bike fit.
