I do understand the question, so here goes:
I think it depends on the temperature. In the winter I don't carry Gatorade at all, just water, and I can get food at gas stations. You really sweat very little riding in the winter. I can go fifty miles with one large water bottle, and a 12 ounce Coke at the halfway point. In the winter I'll go the first 25 or 30 miles without even drinking.
TX summers are a different story. For that same fifty mile ride, I'll consume 2 large bottles, both with Gatorade.
I live in Austin, TX so right now the temp hovers in the high 80's when I am riding. I go through almost 2-24oz water bottles.
