I was comparing a new wireless Quarq to a new wireless SRM. I don't think a price comparison of a new wireless Quarq to a used wired SRM is an entirely fair comparison.

Of course if you don't mind buying used, and the wires, a used wired SRM could be a very good option.

As for Quarq's drowning, I've had mine for 15 months, ridden in heavy rain, and have had no problems. Quarq warrants it for 2 years as well.

As for non proprietary head units, if you want a new wireless SRM with a SRM head unit, you are getting really expensive. I haven't had significant problems with the Garmin.

As for recalibrating with new chainrings, how often do you change chainrings, as oppossed to replacing a battery.

All of this said, I'd likely buy an SRM if the price was closer, but I just don't see a $1,000 advantage.
