I've been back and forth with this forever. My commuter and cross bikes have been Rival for a while, but the commuter is 1x10 and the cross bike never gets the front ring shifted.
My road bikes are 6700 and Red. I've declared a winner several times, only to change my mind when I get back on the other bike. For me, hood shape goes to sram. Front shifting goes to shimano. Other than that, it's a toss-up. It all works well - though I do think shimano needs a strong RD spring in their new lineup.
I was much happier with sram after I realized I was running the cables wrong. Trying to run them on the front of the bar created too much friction and created difficult front-ring shifting.
