why not, its not a bad bike, these guys are talking about it being heavy and old? well guess what? it'll out last any newer bike that anyone on this forum owns, and its not like your going to race the ****ing bike! you're building a townie! so who give a **** if its a bit heavy? once you change out the steel ashtabula crank and steel wheels you'll be fine. BTW, I've never seen a vintage Schwinn frame crack under normal use. Here's a sweet little number I built for a friend a while ago, still on the street and running strong!
